@morik1 The poignancy of Marion’s performance was underappreciated. Every moment of sadness and longing could be read in her eyes and facial expression. Cruz was great too – morphing from sexy vamp to suicidal mistress. Still, I would have nominated Cotillard before Cruz.

NINE the musical never was a huge hit in Bway. I actually find the songs plain and somehow repetitive. This is the only one that moves me. Marion Cotillard delivers a First Class rendition of acting-singing without even trying, so unlike most of the perormances in the movie.
WTH were the Academy members thinking when chose Penelope Cruz instead of Marion for the Supporting Actress nomination ??!!
